It’s not every day a film is completely trounced in Cannes but yesterday brought boos galore for Nicole Kidman’s The Paperboy. Co-starring Zac Efron and Matthew McConaughey, the thriller from Lee Daniels was bashed by critics although Efron fans will probably welcome it with open arms.
While The Paperboy stars were having their own party, the rest of Cannes’ A-list headed to Hotel du Cap in Antibes for the annual amfAR Cinema Agaisnt AIDS gala hosted by Harvey Weinstein. The frocks were serious: Milla Jovovich went space age with a dramatic Versace gown while Jessie J vamped it up in purple leopard print and Janet Jackson went for a figure-hugging white number. The fund raiser always attracts a mix of Hollywood stars and more random celebs and rich list types: we watched a trail of tall beautiful models tread the red (or actually grey) carpet, towering in heels over their unremarkable looking dates. Ah, the world of the wealthy.
